Headie Illegal
On his new track, “Illegal,” Headie One evaluates how far he’s come.
It appears that Headie One will release a new album in the near future. Over the course of 2022, he released a number of singles that demonstrated his international appeal. He’s collaborated with rappers from outside the UK, like as French musician Gazo and Dutch artist Frenna, but his latest albums have also taken it back to his hometown of London.
Following the release of “Can’t Be Us,” which featured Bandokay and Abra Cadabra, the rapper returns with his latest solo single, “Illegal.” Using a ghostly speech sample, Headie reflects on his background, the events that shaped him, and the trauma he inherited. On the song, he raps, “Come a long way from Eagle, it was induction, I was on default/ it’s still PTSD when I hear that Nina.” It’s a shivering banger that showcases Headie One’s honest composition and cutting flows, which he does so effortlessly.
