City Fidelia, an Ottawa rapper, is gearing up for the release of his debut album Painkiller this year. The Canadian rapper returned this week with his latest single, “Soulmate,” featuring Shelley FKA DRAM. Following 2021’s “College Dropout,” the latest single is his third release from Painkiller. The warm, heartfelt production evokes nostalgia as City and Shelley examine the complexities of love and the aftereffects of heartbreak.
“The song is about my experiences as a black boy raised by a single mother, trying to understand the concept of love while also discovering myself. In the song, I convey how my trauma has disrupted my emotional processes, making it difficult for me to articulate and express my feelings correctly. However, I also take the time to express my gratitude to the person/soulmate who noticed the perfection in my flaws “He stated this in a statement.
