Today commemorates a horrible day in music history. Aaliyah’s death will be commemorated on August 25th, 2022. Nonetheless, she remains one of the most influential figures in R&B. Following disagreements between her estate and her record company, fans have finally acquired her discography via streaming platforms in the last two years.
It seems like a good moment to revisit her single “4 Page Letter” as this week’s #TBT. While there has been much talk regarding the status of R&B, “4 Page Letter” was a tune that embodied the feeling of love that many think is missing from the genre. From Timbaland’s clever production to Aaliyah’s emotional songwriting that sees her wallowing in love, “4 Page Letter” has remained a timeless anthem in her collection.
