The 19-year-old Baltimore craftsman shows an uncanny skill for irresistible, extraordinary tunes across the delivery’s six tracks, fainting and singing with an elevating energy fitting for the introduction of another year. “BatBxy is about my previous year encounters. It’s a unique note from me to my fans,” says TheHxliday, “I needed to drop BatBxy on New Year’s Day explicitly in light of the fact that I sense that it’s me venturing out of my old self. It’s about the learning cycle that I’ve been experiencing in 2020 going into the upgraded me in 2021.”
Early singles like the surly “Express gratitude toward U” and the cheerful “Giggle a Little”— whose dramatic video dropped on Christmas day — flaunt the youthful lyricist’s talent for causing the two battles and wins to feel happy. In any event, when TheHxliday sings of torment or misfortune on tunes like “Nxbxdy,” he covers it all in glittery, happy songs. That track’s snare plays like a statement of purpose: “I disclose to myself that everything is going to be alright/I let the cynicism go a-a-away.”
BatBxy is only the most recent in a noteworthy profitable streak for TheHxliday. Since he began presenting on SoundCloud in his youthfulness, he’s made as much as 1,000 melodies — such a granulate that produces jewels like his passionate 2018 breakout “Foe,” which grabbed the eye of tastemaking interactive media group Lyrical Lemonade.
