Today is a pitiful day for reggae culture. Symbol Lee “Scratch” Perry died Sunday. He was 85 years of age. As of now, no reason for death has been uncovered. Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, conveyed a progression of tweets to address the death of Perry.

“My profound sympathies to the family, companions, and aficionados of incredible record maker and vocalist, Rainford Hugh Perry OD, tenderly known as ‘Lee Scratch’ Perry,” Holness tweeted. “Perry was a pioneer during the 1970s’ improvement of name music with his initial reception of studio impacts to make new instrumentals of existing reggae tracks.”

“He has worked with and created for different artistes, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Congos, Adrian Sherwood, the Beastie Boys, and numerous others,” Holness proceeded. “Without a doubt, Lee Scratch Perry will consistently be associated with his authentic commitment to the music society. May his spirit Rest In Peace.”

Perry brought home the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2002 for Jamaican E.T., and has delivered tons of records during his broad and amazing profession. His energy will be remembered fondly yet his effect won’t ever be neglected.
