Jurgen Klopp Reveals Why He Gave Alexander-Arnold Liverpool Captain Armband

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has explained why he handed the club’s captain armband to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Klopp said the decision was based on policy rather than sentiment, explaining that the England international was the oldest player in the squad when Liverpool tackled FC Midtjylland in the Champions League group stage game on Wednesday night.

Alexander-Arnold added to his list of honours when he captain the team on Wednesday.

Klopp noted that the captaincy meant a lot to the player, adding that the young talent is already showcasing the qualities of a captain.

“The reason… I didn’t think he is the ‘best leader’ now in the line-up of the last game, he is the longest in the club,” Klopp told press conference at the weekend.

“When the players’ committee, the four captains if you want, are not there then it was clear it’s not even a decision. It was clear it’s then Trent.

“I realised when I told him that it means a lot to him and obviously a lot to him.

“I was really happy that I made the decision. But the decision was a logical one because of the time he is in the club.”
