AKA’s Biography and 2019 Net Worth: Award winning rapper with a career spanning over thirteen years, a bad boy personae and always known for making controversial statements. AKA is unarguably one of the most successful South African rapper/ musician.
Real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was born in Cape Town, South Africa on January 28 1988. He is a hip hop recording artist and record producer. During his teenage years, he formed a group with his classmates called ‘Entity‘. Entity rose to success in the mid-2000s with hit songs like Touch & Go and First Gear. The group dispersed in 2006, whilst the other two members decided to further their studies at tertiary level, AKA took a leap of faith and continued his career as a solo rap artist.
AKA went on to study sound engineering and later joined Buks and Kamza to form the production collective known as The I.V. League in 2007. His production credits include tracks by PRO, Tuks Senganga, Andile, Shugasmakx, Khuli Chana, Teargas, Psyfo, Jub Jub, Loyiso Bala, Bala Brothers, Jae, JR and Proverb.
AKA‘s career in 2009 began taking off as he released hit singles such as Problems, In My Walk and Do It. 2010-2012 saw the rapper rise to stardom. After he released his debut album, Altar-Ego, which featured hits such as I Want It All, All I Know and the smash hit that was Victory Lap.
Forbes released his second album in 2014 titled ‘Levels’. The album was certified platinum as for 2014, and double platinum for 2018 by RiSA. His third album ‘Touch My Blood’ was then released on 15 June 2018. The album was recently certified gold. The album’s sixth single “Fela in Versace” featuring Kiddominant received higher commercial success compared to the other singles.
The artiste has a daughter with music producer, Dj Zinhle named Kairo Owethu Forbes who was born on the 8 of July 2015. However, the couple are no longer together as they split amidst cheating rumors against AKA.
Supa Mega has several awards and nominations to his credit some of which includes; Best Male Artist: 21st South African Music Awards for his song ‘Levels’, Most Digital Sales: 4th South African Hip Hop Awards – 2015, Best Collaboration: 15th Metro FM Music Awards for the song ‘Baddest’ – 2016 and many more. In 2019 he was nominated for the BET Best International Act of The Year Awards.
The rapper in partnership with Reebok recently launched a sneaker brand, SneAKA. He is current net worth is approximately $12 million dollars
