Chief Keef’s new label has released his first tune.
Chief Keef is still a major presence in hip-hop. His name trended on Twitter a few months ago as fans discussed who was the most influential rapper of all time. Following his success, Keef founded his own record label, 43B, and signed Lil Gnar as its first signee.
Sosa has just dropped a brand-new single, his first for the label, and it is excellent. Keef is in terrific form throughout the nearly five-minute “Chief So,” addressing the haters who “wish Chief So was dead.” The beat is as intense as his subject matter: arpeggiating strings pulse over a powerful 808 while repeating over and over. The urgency of Keef’s performance increases as the song nears its conclusion. He starts growling his bars, which are then processed with an echo to produce a cacophony that blends with the instrumental.
